The actress agreed that, “The mermaids in the movie are different than the mermaids we have seen before, and the mermaid that I play is even different than the others because she meets Philip.
”The mermaid depicted above is representative of what we see of Syrena’s “sisters.” They are more the sirens of lore than the “little mermaids” we have become accustomed to in films. These ladies are indeed outstandingly beautiful women who lure men to their bloody and brutal demise. Syrena stands apart from the other mermaids as one with a mysterious quality of compassion, just as Philip differs from the humans he is accompanying as a man of integrity and wisdom.

Cain has a long way to go to boost his name recognition now that he's officially in the race. According to Gallup, only 29% of Republicans even know who he is. But as Cain spokeswoman Ellen Carmichael told TPM this week, the campaign is pleased with the amount of positive feedback they've received so far, and believes Cain's stock will rise as more people get to know him.
By making his campaign official, Cain joins Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) and Newt Gingrich as the only declared candidates in the race. Tim Pawlenty is expected to declare his candidacy on Monday, and several others candidates who have formed exploratory committees and are expected to join the race in the coming months.

Actress Brittany Murphy's death is being called an accident, primarily due to pneumonia, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office. But additional findings that anemia and prescription drugs also played a role leave several unanswered questions.

They told investigators she had been experiencing flu-like symptoms days before she died.
The coroner determined that Murphy's death was from "community acquired pneumonia," while also citing as contributing factors, iron deficiency anemia and "multiple drug intoxication."
Coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey declined to specify what types of drugs were involved but said they were all prescription medications. Details about the drugs will be released in several weeks.
Dr. Michael Baden, the former chief medical examiner in New York City, said the coroner's determination indicated drugs probably played a key role in Murphy's death.
Baden said the use of some prescription medications can lead to pneumonia, and the coroner's office may have listed that as the primary cause to lessen the blow to Murphy's family.
"One doesn't die of pneumonia, usually, that quickly," Baden said. He also downplayed the role anemia may have played in Murphy's death.
A memorial for a foundation in Brittany Murphy's name had been planned for Thursday, but was abruptly canceled with no explanation.

'The Dark Knight Rises': Batman Film Adds Modine, King, Conti: As if to replenish the mystery it leaked with the creepy viral Tom Hardy as Bane image that kicked off its promotional campaign, "The Dark Knight Rises" on Friday quietly added three new cast members in largely unspecified roles.
According to Variety, actors Matthew Modine, Tom Conti and Joey King (an 11-year old who starred in last summer's "Ramona and Beezus") have joined the cast of director Christopher Nolan's epic final Batman film. Their roles are unknown, beyond the morsel that Modine's character will be named Nixon (semi-irrelevant unless, of course, someone's reanimated the late President).
The three join a star-studded cast; beyond Hardy as evil Bane, Christian Bale is back as Batman, with Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing his allies in the Gotham Police Department.

Ted Kaczynski's DNA Wanted By FBI For 1982 Poison Tylenol Case: The FBI has requested a DNA sample from "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski as part of its investigation into the 1982 deaths of seven Chicago-area people who took cyanide-laced Tylenol from packages that had been tampered with, officials said Thursday.
Kaczynski, who pleaded guilty in 1998 to setting 16 explosions that killed three people and is serving a life sentence in federal prison, has declined to voluntarily provide a DNA sample.
Chicago FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates said the FBI is seeking DNA from Kaczynski and "numerous individuals," although she wouldn't provide details about any of the others. She declined to say whether the agency would try to compel Kaczynski to give a sample, but in a motion filed in California court, Kaczynski said he was told the FBI would try to force his hand.
John Balasz, Kaczynski's attorney, said he thinks the FBI is wants Kaczynski's DNA simply to rule him out as a suspect in the Tylenol case.
"You've got to ask the FBI how serious they are. I think it's probably more that they want to exclude him," he said.
Balasz said he's "completely convinced" that Kaczynski had no involvement in the case.
The U.S. Marshals Service is currently auctioning off items seized from Kaczynski's home. Ahead of that auction, he filed the court motion in California asking the court to order the government to keep certain items taken from his cabin in 1996, including journals that could prove his whereabouts in 1982 and other evidence that could clear him in the Tylenol case.
In a response filed Monday, federal prosecutors said the courts lack the jurisdiction to enter such an order. They also noted that Kaczynski hasn't been indicted in connection with the Tylenol investigation "and no such federal prosecution is currently planned."

These are all the work of artist Levi Hopkins, who has been toiling away on the series and its various campaigns for a while now, having worked various jobs like Prototype Lead, Environment Art Lead and 3d Artist.
I love these because they're fresh for a game with a fantasy setting. Too often anything involving magic and swords tends to get bogged down in the baggage of the genre, too reliant on the stereotypes and clichés that have come before them. Green fields, stone castles, pointy ears, you know the drill.
But this stuff has a bit more cleanliness to it, an almost sci-fi quality. Which looks great.

Persona Non Grata At Cannes
Lars von Trier 'persona non grata' at Cannes: The Cannes Film Festival says in a statement that the Festival’s Board of Directors has met and “profoundly regrets that this forum has been used by Lars Von Trier to express comments that are unacceptable, intolerable, and contrary to the ideals of humanity and generosity that preside over the very existence of the Festival.”
On Wednesday, von Trier came under fire for saying, “OK, I’m a Nazi” as part of a larger, winding response.
"For a long time I thought I was a Jew and I was happy to be a Jew,” von Trier said. “Then I met [Danish and Jewish director] Susanne Bier and I wasn’t so happy. But then I found out I was actually a Nazi. My family were German. And that also gave me some pleasure. What can I say? I understand Hitler…I sympathize with him a bit."
Later that day, the Festival released a statement with an explanation from von Trier, who said he “let himself be egged on by a provocation.” Von Trier also issued an apology, saying, "If I have hurt someone this morning by the words I said at the press conference, I sincerely apologize. I am not anti-Semitic or racially prejudiced in any way, nor am I a Nazi."
But as a result of those comments, the Festival’s Board of Directors announced Thursday that it “firmly condemns these comments and declares Lars Von Trier a persona non grata at the Festival de Cannes, with effect immediately.”
It also appears that von Trier has lost an Argentine distributor for his “Melancholia” film, which he was promoting at the Festival. The distribution company said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter that following the director’s remarks at Cannes, it’s decided to “cancel the contract that linked it to the film.”
The company added, “We clearly condemn Mr. Lars von Trier’s statements and will not support or release his film in the country.”

Later that day, the Festival released a statement with an explanation from von Trier, who said he “let himself be egged on by a provocation.” Von Trier also issued an apology, saying, "If I have hurt someone this morning by the words I said at the press conference, I sincerely apologize. I am not anti-Semitic or racially prejudiced in any way, nor am I a Nazi."
But as a result of those comments, the Festival’s Board of Directors announced Thursday that it “firmly condemns these comments and declares Lars Von Trier a persona non grata at the Festival de Cannes, with effect immediately.”
It also appears that von Trier has lost an Argentine distributor for his “Melancholia” film, which he was promoting at the Festival. The distribution company said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter that following the director’s remarks at Cannes, it’s decided to “cancel the contract that linked it to the film.”
The company added, “We clearly condemn Mr. Lars von Trier’s statements and will not support or release his film in the country.”

Cameron tells us, "Professor Hawking is heralded as 'the genius of Britain,' yet he believes in the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything and that life sprang from non-life."
He adds, "Why should anyone believe Mr. Hawking's writings if he cannot provide evidence for his unscientific belief that out of nothing, everything came?"
So how does John Lennon fit in to all this? Cameron explains:

“Anyone you talk to on the street has an opinion on this case,” she said. “And because it’s been saturated with news media, especially in this day and age of social media, Twitter, Facebook, etc. it’s going to be a very tough job.”
Kenney Baden, a longtime attorney of Anthony’s, left her defense team in October. She cited financial limitations in continuing to represent her. The New York-based attorney said she had incurred travel costs in Florida and elsewhere, but said, due to restrictions by the Justice Administration Commission, she could not be paid for these costs as an out-of-state attorney.

The couple released a joint statement saying, “After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship.”
The statement continues, “We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and center of both of our lives.”The couple adds, “We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment.”
63-year-old Arnold and 55-year-old Maria met in 1977 when Tom Brokaw introduced them at a charity event. They were married in 1986.

It is within this context the order was placed for the Statue of Liberty, made in Paris by the French sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, in collaboration with Gustave Eiffel, who conceived and executed the metallic skeleton which was to form the interior framework. The exterior 'envelope' was composed of brass plaques, formed by hammering them in hard wood moulds made from plaster models. These plaques were then soldered and riveted together. After Bartholdi prefabricated the figure in Paris by moulding sheets of copper over a steel framework, it was shipped to the United States in 241 crates in 1885.
Some of the money to erect the statue was contributed by American schoolchildren. It is certain that for millions of immigrants who came to America in the 19th century seeking freedom, it was the fulfilment of their dreams. The sculptor also intended with his work to be an immense and impressive symbol of human liberty, and it is one of the most universal symbols of political freedom and democracy. The people of France gave the statue to the people of the United States over 100 years ago in recognition of the friendship established during the American Revolution.
The Statue of Liberty, a woman holding on high a book and a 46 m long torch set on Liberty Island, situated at the entrance to New York harbour about 1 km from the landing point of the immigrants, was dedicated on 28 October 1886 and was designated a National Monument on 15 October 1924. On 8 September 1937, jurisdiction was enlarged to encompass all of Bedloe's Island and in 1956, the island's name was changed to Liberty Island. On 11 May 1965, Ellis Island was also transferred to the National Park Service and became part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument.

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World, a hollow colossus composed of thinly pounded copper sheets over a steel framework, was designed in Paris by the French sculptor Frederic Bartholdi, in collaboration with the French engineer Gustave Eiffel, who was responsible for its frame, intended as a gift from France for the centenary of American independence in 1876. Its design and construction were recognized at the time as one of the greatest technical achievements of the 19th century, and, when finally dedicated a decade later, it was hailed as a bridge between art and engineering. Atop its pedestal, designed by noted American architect Richard Morris Hunt, on an island at the entrance to New York Harbour, the Statue has since welcomed millions of immigrants who arrived in the United States by sea.
Criteria
(i) This colossal statue is a masterpiece of the human spirit. The collaboration between the sculptor Bartholdi and the engineer Eiffel resulted in the production of a technological wonder that brings together art and engineering in a new and powerful way.

LinkedIn’s IPO in New York next week is expected to spark a gold rush of social networking flotations
LinkedIn, the social network for business professionals, will be valued at $3.3bn (£2bn) when it floats on the New York Stock Exchange next week, setting off a multimillion-dollar gold rush of social media companies.
The nine-year-old social network plans to float on the NYSE on 19 May and said it could raise as much as $274m. In January the firm said it was looking to raise $175m in the initial public offering.
The firm is cashing in amid an increasingly frenzied investor appetite for the next generation of internet firms. It will become the first major US social network to go public and follows the float of Renren, China’s version of facebook, which saw its stock soar 40% in its first day of trading on the NYSE earlier this month.
LinkedIn’s float is expected to be followed by a wave of flotations including those of Groupon, the online discount business; Zynga, maker of the Cityville and Farmville online games, and Facebook.
Facebook’s valuation has soared in recent months as investors clamour for shares in the privately held company. The company was valued at $50bn when investors put in more cash in January but its privately held shares have since traded at prices that suggest the firm could be worth more than $70bn.
Analysts said LinkedIn’s flotation would be seen as the first real indicator of investor appetite for US social media firms. Colin Gillis, internet analyst at BGC Partner in New York, said: “Renren had everything – it’s Chinese and it’s social networking. LinkedIn is going to be the first real indicator of demand for the US social network firms.”
