420 Where Come From?

420, Where Come From?: The Term 420, celebrated around the world by April 20, pot smokers, has long hidden by memories clouded of people who made it a Celebration Day.

It starts with Touring Dead.
It was a week of Christmas in Oakland, 1990. Steven Bloom was wandering by The batch  when a Deadhead was given a yellow flyer.

"We will meet at 4: 20 pm on 4/20 for 420 in Marin County at the sunset in Bolinas Ridge spot on Mount Tamalpais". Bloom, then a reporter for High Times magazine and now CelebStoner.com editor and co-author of the Pot, Culture, had never heard of "420-ing" before.

The flyer came with a history of back 420: "420 started somewhere in San Rafael, California at the end of the 1970s." He began as the police code for smoking Marijuana in progress. "After the hearing of the appeal of the local police, they began to use the term 420 referring to dude herb - Let's enjoy 420!"
