"The government cannot just shoot its way out of this crisis," Philip Luther, Amnesty's Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, said in a statement. "Whether in uniform or in plainclothes, security forces must be immediately stopped from using live ammunition on unarmed protesters."

Chris Christie Budget Cuts Ruling: A New Jersey judge ruled on Tuesday that Governor Chris Christie's nearly $1 Billion in budget cuts to schools last year left the state unable to meet its educational obligations to more than one million children, the Star-Ledger Reports.

In a report issued Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Peter Doyne found that Christie's cuts hit high-risk districts the hardest.
Last year, Christie cut state funding for all districts, including the needy ones, saying the state government couldn't balance its budget otherwise.
According to the Star-Ledger, Doyne wrote in an opinion on the case, "Despite spending levels that meet or exceed virtually every state in the country, and that saw a significant increase in spending levels from 2000 to 2008, our 'at risk' children are now moving further from proficiency."
Bloomberg Reports:
Doyne said his job as a special master was to determine whether current spending levels permit school districts to meet their requirement of providing a "thorough and efficient" education to children.
"The difficulty in addressing New Jersey's fiscal crisis and its constitutionally mandated obligation to educate our children requires an exquisite balance not easily attained," wrote Doyne, according to the Star-Ledger. "Something need be done to equitably address these competing imperatives. That answer, though, is beyond the purview of this report. For the limited question posed to the Master, it is clear the State has failed to carry its burden."

Warren Buffett: the world's third-richest man, is still "wary" of investing in companies like Apple, according to a Bloomberg article about the billionaire.
Buffett isn't swayed by Steve Jobs' "magical" iPad and "revolutionary" iPhone 4. As far as investments go, Buffett said he is more likely to keep away from consumer electronics, as he has in the past, in favor of companies like Coca-Cola.
"Even though Apple may have the most wonderful future in the world, I'm not capable of bringing any drink to that particular party and evaluating that future," Buffett said during a visit to South Korea. "I simply look at businesses where I think I have some understanding of what they might look like in five or 10 years."
"We held very few in the past and we're likely to hold very few in the future," Buffett said of electronics makers. He noted that a company like Coca-Cola, on the other hand, is "very easy for me to come to a conclusion as to what it will look like economically in five or 10 years, and it's not easy for me to come to a conclusion about Apple."
Though Buffett may not be a techie, the Oracle of Omaha said in an interview last year that he actually spends more time at his computer than Bill Gates, passing over 12 hours a week playing bridge online.

Bruce Pearl Fired at Tennessee: Tennessee has fired Bruce Pearl after a season that saw the coach charged with unethical conduct for lying to NCAA investigators during a probe into recruiting, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.
The person spoke with The Associated Press Monday on condition of anonymity because the university has not announced the firing.
In six seasons, Pearl, 51, led the Volunteers to their first No. 1 ranking in 2008 and first NCAA tournament regional finals appearance, missing out on a trip to the 2010 Final Four by a single point.
Pearl acknowledged in a tearful press conference on Sept. 10 that he had given investigators false information when asked about a cookout at his home attended by high school juniors. The NCAA has since charged the Tennessee basketball and football programs with a dozen violations.
After a 75-45 loss to Michigan on Friday in the second round of the NCAA tournament, Pearl said that he planned to be accountable for the mistakes he had made but his "goal and desire is to be the basketball coach at Tennessee next year and for a long time."
Tennessee docked his salary by $1.5 million over five years, banned him from off-campus recruiting for a year and terminated his contract in September. Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive tacked on an eight-game suspension from conference play.

Tomahawk Cruise Missiles: More than 112 Tomahawk cruise missiles struck over 20 targets inside Libya today in the opening phase of an international military operation the Pentagon said was aimed at stopping attacks led by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and enforcing a U.N.-backed no-fly zone.
President Obama, speaking from Brazil shortly after he authorized the missile attacks, said they were part of a "limited military action" to protect the Libyan people.
"I want the American people to know that the use of force is not our first choice and it's not a choice I make lightly," Obama said. "But we cannot stand idly by when a tyrant tells his people that there will be no mercy."
The first air strikes, in what is being called Operation Odyssey Dawn, were launched from a mix of U.S. surface ships and one British submarine in the Mediterranean Sea at 2 p.m. ET, Vice Adm. William E. Gortney told reporters at a Pentagon briefing.
They targeted Libyan air defense missile sites, early warning radar and key communications facilities around Tripoli, Misratah, and Surt, but no areas east of that or near Benghazi. Because of darkness over Libya, Gortney said it was too early to determine the strikes' effectiveness.

Researchers attribute this decline in part to cigarette taxes.
It's not just that smokers quit or reduce.
It seems the younger generations have changed their smoking habits.
Last year, a study by the University of Michigan found the decline in smoking among teenagers has reached a plateau and has proposed to teenagers may be lighting more often.
Whether one or 20 cigarettes per day, smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death in the country.

Last week, Woods announced that he'd be moving into his 12-acre $50-million bachelor pad soon, which includes a 6,400-square-foot gym/media room/bar, an elevator, a reflecting pond, a lap pool, and a 3.5 acre practice facility.
"[The practice facility] features four greens, six bunkers with different depths and kinds of sand, a video center and a putting studio," Woods wrote on his blog last week. "It's also set up so I can hit shots out of my second-story studio."
The former couple, who finalized their split in August 2010, agreed to live near each other for the sake of their children, Sam and Charlie.
